Barra
de São Miguel
All
along the Barra de São Miguel there is a long stretch of
sand. Along some of these, standard beach stalls are set up
along the promenade.
During
the week it is very tranquil, but weekends and during high
season São Miguel gets very lively. A reef barrier that
represses the waves makes the shore ideal for bathing.
Nearby
is the Lagoa do Roteiro. From Maceió down south,
there is Barra de São Miguel, Roteiro, Jequiá da
Praia, Cururipe and Piaçabuçu. The entrance to
Barra de São Miguel is 33 km fron Maceió, via
AL-101. From
Francês Beach on, in Marechal Deodoro, it’s another 12
km.
Dom
Pero Fernandes Sardinha, the first bishop of Brazil, is supposed
to have been captured and easten by the Caetés Indians,
who where cannibals and lived in this region.
