ARACAJU
Aracaju became capital of the State in 1855 due to its
strategic location, close to the sea, on the banks of Sergipe
River, which made it and ideal outlet for sugarcane goods
produced in the interior of the state. Because it was founded
for this purpose, Aracaju is a planned city with chessboard-like
streets and squares. Even for someone visiting for the first
time, it’s easy to get around the well signed streets and
avenues. The seafront, with Atalaia Beach, which is 30 km long
has many bars, restaurants and hotels. The crab is also symbol
of this region, and crab meat appetizers are served in most
restaurants.
